ABOUT TVVA

About the Tanque Verde Valley Association

For nearly 80 years, the Tanque Verde Valley Association has brought neighbors together around a shared commitment to the place we call home. We help residents stay informed, take part in the decisions affecting their community, and advocate for a future that keeps the Valley unlike anywhere else.

OUR COMMUNITY

Where neighborhoods meet wide open desert

Nestled between the Catalina and Rincon Mountains on Tucson's northeast side, the Tanque Verde Valley is a community defined as much by its landscape as by the people who call it home. Horses share the land with hikers, cyclists and wildlife, and dark skies still let you step outside at night and see the stars.

Much of the Valley remains unincorporated, so decisions about our land, roads and natural resources can involve many agencies and public processes. Our role is to give the Tanque Verde Valley a collective community voice.

OUR WHY

There's a reason people choose to live here

Tanque Verde Valley is unique, special, and worth protecting.

Unlike much of the surrounding area, open desert still stretches between neighborhoods. Horses, washes and abundant wildlife remain part of everyday life. Our mountain views haven't disappeared behind a wall of high-density development, and despite a growing metro area, the Valley has kept its sense of space, independence and community.

Every new development, road project, zoning change and public policy decision can shape what this community looks like for decades. The work we do will outlast all of us.

OUR MISSION

To preserve the inherent scenic and ecological characteristics of our area.

OUR VISION

A thriving Tanque Verde Valley where intentional growth, responsible stewardship and an engaged community preserve the qualities that make this place unlike anywhere else.

We envision a community where residents are informed and involved, decision-makers listen to the people they serve, and progress happens with an understanding that what we build today becomes the Valley future generations inherit.

80 YEARS OF HISTORY

One of the oldest nonprofits in Southern Arizona

1947 TVVA is incorporated, when the Valley was still ranches, open desert and dirt roads.

Across generations, residents have come together through TVVA to stay informed and engaged on the issues shaping their community, from land use and zoning to roads, development, open space and the preservation of the Valley's distinctive rural character.

The issues have changed, and our community has grown. But our purpose has never wavered: to give residents a voice in what happens in their own backyard.

OUR VALUES

What guides our work

Intentional Growth

Communities evolve and growth is inevitable. We advocate for growth that considers infrastructure, neighborhoods, natural resources and the long-term character of the Valley.

Community Voice

The people most affected by decisions should have opportunities to understand and take part in them. We work to make those conversations accessible to every resident.

Protecting Our Character

Open space, dark skies, wildlife, washes, mountain views, equestrian traditions and lower-density development deserve consideration as we grow.

Informed Engagement

Good civic participation starts with good information: what is proposed, why it matters, who decides, how it affects you and how to take part.

Respectful Dialogue

Neighbors who care about the same place won't always agree, and that's okay. We make space for questions, different perspectives and productive conversations.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

A volunteer, board-led organization

Our Board of Directors is made up of people who care deeply about the Tanque Verde Valley and give their time, experience and energy to protect its character and thoughtfully shape its future.
